“I’ve lost 23lbs, dropped 3 sizes in clothes and I’m feeling happier”
Helen joined Performance Project to get healthier and fitter for her family. She’s certainly done that.
What made you join PP?
I’ve always struggled with my weight and insecurity and have made several attempts to lose weight with Weight Watchers, Slimming world, and Personal Training.
I would like to think that I’ve reached a sensible age where I know my strengths and weaknesses and can hold up my hands and say – “Ok, I need some help” – and then dig deep, and get on with it.
A couple of friends had shared a few of Performance Project’s posts, and at first, I didn’t feel very motivated or interested, so it took a little while before I really looked into PP and saw the 30 Day Trial that they offer. I said to my partner that I’d like to give it a try, to have somebody kicking my bum and to finally get lean. Hopefully leading to a healthier and happier person, partner and mum.
How were you feeling before joining?
Like shit. Seriously. I had no motivation and I was feeling depressed. It wasn’t very good at all. I know how much better I feel when I’m actually taking care of myself but all I did was go out for half-hearted runs, gym visits with treadmills and cross trainers and make poor attempts on weight machines, which made me feel useless. I wasn’t seeing results and this just deflated me even more.
Physically I was struggling with different gastro problems and was probably heading for more serious health problems connected to being overweight. Having lost my mum 11 yrs ago at a very young age, I’ve always wanted to be there for my kids when they grow up, and the way I was going, that was not going to be the case.

What did you want to achieve?
I wanted to become a healthier person. I wanted to become more active in my life and with my family and I wanted to look in the mirror and be proud of achieving something that I didn’t think I could. I wanted to give myself a fair chance of being able to grow old with my husband and kids.
What results have you seen whilst training?
I’ve lost 23lbs, dropped 3 sizes in clothes and I’m feeling happier and finding confidence in myself to try new things, like road biking and getting back to running and being better than ever at it. My new found enthusiasm has spread to the rest of the family, especially my son, who is suffering from a long-term hip injury. We are now thinking about food in a different way and exercising together in different ways and enjoying it.
I’m also seeing muscles starting to show in places they didn’t show before. I love it!

Would you recommend PP to a friend?
YES! The immense support you get from the moment you sign up is just fantastic. The social side with other members and trainers via social media is great, especially in the beginning when you perhaps need an extra pick up or boost in confidence.
Sessions are never boring. The trainers challenge you and push you every week to reach new goals which make you feel amazing.
Help with nutrition and the endless flow of blogs, articles and ideas on the subject are really helpful at times when it’s tricky to find motivation when on a calorie deficit.
Extra classes that are available: HIIT, Boxing and yoga are great to mix it up with your ordinary sessions.
The occasional seminars and Q/A’s that are held either online or in the gym are really good to learn more outside of the gym and have the opportunity to ask questions regarding specific subjects.
Weekly check-ins, new programs, the Summer BBQ and the Halloween Quiz are just a small pick of all the other things that come with a membership at PP.
Once you join, you just don’t want to stop.
