Founded in 2013 by Jerome Bolze and two school friends who shared the desire to provide residents of Sussex with the highest quality of strength training and truly evidence-based nutrition advice.
Fed up of fad diets and soulless gym environments, their mission was to help people get in shape and feel their best whilst actually enjoying the process and achieving lasting change.
PP started life in a tiny 800 sq ft studio but by 2015 had outgrown this space and moved into a new 3,500 sq ft home on Burrell Road.
The physical space has undergone several transformations since then but remains Performance Project’s current home today.
From its humble beginnings, the business model has progressed from one-to-one coaching and developed into a popular and highly successful small-group personal training model.
Performance Project has quite literally gone from strength to strength. Now, eight years on from inception it delivers exceptionally high standards of small-group personal training, coach-led fitness classes and nutrition coaching to hundreds of members across Sussex.

Our founder
Jerome Bolze was just 18 years old when he started his first outdoor PT business but he already had a burning desire to learn from the best in their fields, which led him to spend thousands of hours studying and attending seminars, workshops, and events run by industry-leading health and fitness professionals.
From 2010-2012 Jerome ran an outdoor bootcamp named Urban Training, during which time he also rented his first gym space and founded a business called Practical Performance – this later turned into Performance Project.
He has always placed an emphasis on his own professional development as well as that of his team, as he believes this is the route to becoming a true leader and authority in any field. For Jerome, this has included several trips around the world to work with the best coaches at the best gyms.
Today, Performance Project helps, inspires and motivates hundreds of members to live their best lives and Jerome’s vision for the future includes even bigger and better things.
Mission statement
“Inspiring change and continuous improvement in all areas of life.”
Through smart and consistent training, we encourage change and continuous improvement.
We inspire our community to improve all important facets of their life, not just their fitness.
Whether it’s completing an ironman, delivering an important presentation at work, chasing after the grandkids, or going on long walks with a partner or friend, we believe our community is more likely to succeed if it is physically and mentally strong.
Ultimately, we demand better health so that our members can take on life’s biggest challenges, experiences and goals, and truly enjoy their favourite things in life for longer.
